A few months ago, I stepped in as a Fractional CFO for a scaling B2B SaaS company that had just closed a funding round. Revenue was growing, the product was solid, and the founders were visionary. But under the surface, there was chaos.

🔸 Cash was leaking faster than expected.
🔸 The finance team was reactive, not strategic.
🔸 Metrics looked good on the surface, but lacked depth.
🔸 The CEO had no visibility into which clients or segments were truly profitable.

“We raised money, but we’re still flying blind.”
That was the founder’s first line to me.

So where do you begin as a strategic CFO—not full-time, but high-impact?

Clarify the Mandate – I aligned with the CEO on what really mattered. We didn’t need more dashboards. We needed decisions: pricing, product prioritization, and burn control.

Build Financial Clarity – We restructured reporting to show unit economics, churn drivers, and segment-level margins. Suddenly, the exec team had insight, not just data.

Drive Strategic Levers – We renegotiated vendor contracts, realigned the GTM spend, and improved receivables. Within 60 days, the runway extended by 4+ months—without cutting growth initiatives.

Enable the Team – We coached the finance manager to think strategically, not just reconcile accounts. That’s how you build a lasting finance function—even fractionally.

Here’s what I’ve learned:
📌 A strategic fractional CFO doesn't just fill a gap—they create clarity, accountability, and direction.
📌 The real value lies in being a translator between strategy and finance, helping the CEO see around corners.
📌 And it’s not about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things, at the right time, with just the right level of intensity.
